Abstract

The orthorhombic crystal structures of shattuckite, Cu5(SiO 3)4(OH)2, and planche??ite, Cu 8(Si4O11)2(OH)4?? H2O, have been solved. Shattuckite contains silicate chains similar to pyroxene in a complex association with copper atoms, while the closely related planche??ite contains silicate chains similar to amphibole.
