| Abstract: | Argues that in the report of Cook et al (Geology, 7, 563-567), there is no conclusive evidence, on the basis of seismic- reflection profiling of the crystalline southern Appalachians, that subhorizontal features revealed at depths of several kms. actually represent flat-lying sedimentary rocks. Offers an alternntive interpretation, suggesting that the features shown by the southeastern Blue Ridge - Piedmont COCORP line represent a flat-lying complex of thin but extensive granitic sheets and associated high rank schist and gneiss. -after Author |
