Abstract

Identifying sources and sinks of dissolved inorganic carbon species is an important step in understanding the geochemistry of ground-water systems. This is particularly important for Atlantic Coastal Plain aquifers because bicarbonate (HCO//3** minus ) is frequently the major dissolved anion. The purpose of this paper is to document the stable carbon isotope composition of dissolved inorganic carbon in the Aquia aquifer, Maryland, and to use this data to help identify sources and sinks of dissolved HCO//3** minus .
