| Abstract: | Important mineral deposits of several ages have been exploited at many places in the western San Juan Mountains, including the originally studied Uncompahgre Primitive Area, Colorado. Although the three contiguous areas - western, central, and eastern - considered here are largely outside the more productive mining areas, a mineral study indicated that there are areas of probable resource potential for base and precious metals near the margins of the areas. Results of this study indicate that there is little promise for the occurrence of fossil fuels and geothermal energy. |
