| Abstract: | A mineral survey of the Galiuro Wilderness and contiguous roadless areas in southeastern Arizona identified one area of substantiated and four areas of probable resource potential for base and precious metals. It is possible, however, that the dominant, Oligocene and Miocene Galiuro Volcanics, which cap most of the Galiuro Range, conceal other mineral occurrences within underlying, older rocks. No energy resources were identified in this study. Further sampling should be undertaken to confirm or disprove some of the apparent metal anomalies found during the reconnaissance sampling. In addition, drilling would be necessary, particularly in the northwestern corner of the study area, to determine whether the older rocks underlying the Galiuro Volcanics contain ore deposits. |
