Abstract

The article recalls the original methods used by Richter to assess the Magnitude of Earthquakes in California within a radius of 600km of the epicentre. Further methods of assessing fault geometry and dislocation, energy released, depth of earthquake, and effects of intensity when propagated, as for example in Mexico City, through unconsolidated materials. -A.Scarth
