Abstract
The information in this catalog is provided to assist field personnel in the selection of determinations, the estimation of costs, the calculation of sample volume requirements, the identification of the necessary sample treatment and in the evaluation of the precision of the laboratory data. The major section of the catalog is the table of determinations which includes the cost, required sample volume, sample treatment, and precision. This table is divided into three sections: Inorganic determinations, organic determinations, and biological determinations.
The "Inorganic determinations" are subdivided into major ions, major nutrients, trace constituents, physical parameters, and radiochemical measurements. The "Organic determinations" are subdivided into gross measures, pesticides, and munition products. The "Biological determinations" are subdivided into gross measures, periphyton, phytoplankton and benthic invertebrates.
Regardless of the outline form attempted, exceptions and gray areas were encountered. Generally, exceptions were placed into the groups based on a sample designation. As a result, frequent use of the index may be required until users become familiar with the catalog.
