| Abstract: | Water levels were measured in 427 wells in the Mississippi River valley alluvial aquifer in northwestern Mississippi during the period September 15-28, 1981. Water levels in the alluvial sands and gravel were generally lower than water levels in September 1980 and larger depressions in the surface of the ground-water body were detected in the Sunflower-Leflore County area and in Humphreys County. These depressions are attributed to heavy pumping for irrigation and to less-than normal rainfall. Other smaller depressions are attributed to local heavy pumping. (USGS) |
