| Abstract: | Water from aquifers of Mesozoic and Paleozoic age in eastern Montana is little used. This report presents maps and tables to assist in the evaluation of the water in terms of possible utility. In the southern third of eastern Montana water from the Madison Group or from the Tensleep Sandstone contains less than 2,000 milligrams per liter dissolved solids and is available in amounts of as much as 3,700 gallons per minute (230 liters per second) from individual wells. Elsewhere, dissolved-solids concentrations of water from Mesozoic and Paleozoic aquifers commonly exceed 1,000 milligrams per liter, well yields range from 5 to about 1,500 gallons per minute (0.3 to 95 liters per second), and well depths generally are greater than 1,500 feet (460 meters).
