Abstract

Maxwell and Verrall's interesting study raises a thought. If limestones expand on heating and thereby receive a permanent set, as this paper demonstrates, do we not have here a means of determining the maximum temperature to which a particular limestone was ever subjected and indirectly thereby its maximum depth of burial or other geothermal events in its history?
