Abstract
The gulf menhaden is an estuarine-dependent marine species that inhabits northern Gulf of ~1exico waters. The species is generally replaced at the southernmost extent of its range by the finescale menhaden (Brevoortia gunteri) in Texas and the yellowfin menhaden (~. smithi) in Florida. According to mark and recapture studies, there is little along-shore movement of gulf menhaden. Few gulf menhaden cross from one side of the Mississippi River Delta to the other (Kroger and Pristas 1979).
