Abstract
Gypsiferous deposits occur on the south side of Sheep fountain, 112 miles northeast of Anchorage via the Glenn Highway. Sheep Mountain is a high east trending, ridge, approximately 10 miles long and 3 miles wide. It is bordered on the west by Caribou Creek and on the east by Tahneta Pass. To the north it is isolated from the Tahneta Mountains by the valley of Caribou and Squaw Creeks, and from the Chugach Mountains to the south by the valley of the Matanuska River.
