Abstract

This report summarizes results of a 2-week (Feb. 23-Mar. 10, 1970) study of the geothermal resources of the Dieng Mountains, Java; the work was done as part of a cooperative program of the Ministry of Mines and the U. S. Geological Survey under the auspices of the Government of Indonesia and the Agency for International Development, U. S. Department of State.

The Dieng Mountains were chosen as the subject for investigation and appraisal for two reasons: 1) the Dieng Plateau was cited as a promising geothermal target by a UNESCO Volcanological Mission in 1964 (Tazieff, Marinelli, and Gorshkov, 1966); 2) the Dieng Mountains lie in a region of no electrical power, and are between the two power distribution systems of Central Java.
