Abstract
The reports and abstracts included in this bibliography have been selected arbitrarily on the basis of their relation to U.S. Geological Survey studies on earthquake tectonics and risk. U.S. Geological Survey scientists involved in other aspects of earthquake studies have also written many dozens of reports during the same time frame, but such reports are precluded from this collection.
The bibliography contains a subject index, constructed generally from key words found in the titles, and a junior-author index.
Code numbers printed at the left of each reference entry have no significance other than that of making it easy to follow the notations in the subject and junior-author indexes. The reader may notice that some of these code numbers are missing from the ordinary running list; others have been supplemented by A's or B's. This has happened because either references assigned to numbers have been dropped or references originally omitted by mistake have been added.
The references have been typed in accepted U.S. Geological Survey format, which of late means that abbreviations are not used, except for minor notations such as "v." for volume or "p." for page.
