Abstract

Th!s volume is one of a series of 14 reports presenting results or measurements of stage and flow made on streams, lakes, and reservoirs in the United States during the water year ending September 30, 1941. The work was begun !n 1888 in connection with special studies relating to irrigation. Measurements or the flow or streams and of the stage and contents of lakes and reservoirs have been made at about 9,120 gaging stations !n the United States and also at many gaging stations !n Alaska and Hawaii. In July 1941, 4,850 gaging stations were being maintained by the Geological Survey and cooperating organizations. Miscellaneous discharge measurements were made at many other points.

In the execution of the work many State and private organizations have cooperated, either by furnishing data or by assisting !n collecting data. Cooperation of the first kind is acknowledged in connection with the description of each station affected; cooperation of the second kind is acknowledged on page 11.
